The Two Gallants stung by The Brown Hornets

Yes, all that was left at the end of their gig was a watermelon and an over-ripe banana.

To call the Brown Hornets a novelty act is perhaps unfair, because they are a group of very talented musicians; but let's face it, they are a novelty act! (Mostly) fresh produce is their specialty... or at least it was last Tuesday when they opened for California's The Two Gallants.

Bananas and egg plants were hurled into the audience all through the show, along with dollar store tamourines. Peanut butter sandwiches were prepared with Wonder Bread, and a watermelon was skillfully used to bowl down and shatter a triangle of 10-12 empty beer bottles.

In between the songs you might wonder? No... no way.. the songs were non-stop, except when lead singer, Danny Walters, was occupied offstage bowling. Even then, the rest of the band were playing full tilt. Pictures from the show are here. Fire up "Coming Down Easy", and start the slide show.

The Two Gallants actually apologized in advance when they came onstage for their lack of theatrics. They shouldn't have. They didn't need them.

This duo from sunny California have quite a following, and seem to find time to tour worldwide almost nonstop.

There are only so many ways you can take pictures of two guys just doing their thing, but you'll find some photos here and a sample of their sound ("Las Cruces Jail").

Overall, a great evening at The Silver Dollar.
