DOA Lives On!

I'd normally drop a recent email that I got from Sudden Death Records into the promotion section of the Community page, but I thought that this one deserved a bit more attention.

For a band whose name is the acronym for Dead on Arrival, DOA has had a long life... probably Canada's only old-school punk band that's still playing today. As I recall DOA burst onto the scene around 1978 and hasn't stopped touring regularly ever since. Some claim that there wouldn't be a Rise Against or AntiFlag without DOA's influence.

Front-man, Joey "Shithead" Keithley, has apparently been paying the bills when the band's not touring or recording by making other punkers and metal heads famous with the label he founded -- Sudden Death Records.

It looks like DOA will be playing Kathedral on June 16, but that's not the real news today. Not satisfied with just one record label, Shithead (pardon me, if I use your nickname, Joey, when we haven't even been introduced) has announced Taboo Records and signed it's first act -- Calgary-based Once Just.

The new label will be a little more diversified -- taking in pop, rock and ska. I guess Joey's mellowing a bit!

Joey, himself, claims to be working on a ska/roots solo CD that will come out on Taboo next spring.

Let's watch for it, and on the 16th get out to see DOA... probably the greatest punk band to ever come out of Canada! Long live death!
