NXNE - Night 2

Look out Janet Jackson. Could that be a wardrobe malfunction during the White Cowbell Oklahoma set last night at the Horseshoe?

Now that I've got your attention, I'll give you a run-down on my personal Night #2 at NXNE. Maybe you'll share yours with the rest of us... by replying here or in the Community Forum.

I actually spanned two of my geo-zones (see previous "Tips" post) last night... Bathurst/Queen and Spadina/Queen. I figured I needed the exercise and a slice of pizza along the way.

I started at Reverb at 9pm before trekking east. Melissa McLelland played an extraordinary opening set for the evening. (No, that's not her in the photo... check back here next week.) Melissa's band included fiance Luke Doucet on guitar. The highlight, though, was when she gave the band a break and played a few songs solo. You could hear a pin drop, and, believe me, the Reverb is a noisy place.

The Adventures of Loki entertained me next at the Bovine. Good solid punk from the UK. I stayed on for Dutch Oven from Montreal, then staggered on down to the Horseshoe.

This was the first time I had to wait in line for this year's NXNE. White Cowbell Oklahoma clearly has a reputation that precedes them. Believe me... I know! Fortunately, one of the doormen recognized me and took a few minutes off my wait.

And, yes, WCO delivered the goods in fine fashion; and if you think the wardrobe malfunction was interesting, that was just the "tit of the iceberg". Did I say that? Sorry!

More next week when I get some photos up.

Tonight's the last night and don't forget the Six Shooter Records BBQ this afternoon (more in the Community Forum and the Calendar).

Get out there and enjoy it live!
