NXNE - One Down, Two to Go
I hope you NXNE troopers had a great night. I won't be reporting too much here until it's all over and I've done what I can with a mountain of photos and notes on scraps of paper, but I can give you a quick summary of what I've been up to. You can reply to this post with your own experiences, or use the Community Forum to write about them in detail.
I used my geo-zone approach (see yesterday's "Tips" post), and chose Spadina/College as my epicentre. I saw Megababe at El Mo, Red Shag Carpet at Neutral, The Vibrants back at El Mo, Mission to the Sea at Savannah, then The Screens at Neutral again.
I decided to pick bands that had to travel a fair bit to get here, so I got coverage from Tokyo, Edmonton, London, Dallas and Minneapolis in the order that I listed the bands.
I just had to see Red Shag Carpet since I grew up in Edmonton, and, yes, my parents had red shag carpet in their rec room! I had to rake it now and then, as was the custom at the time!
More on the bands when I get my shit together next week. I managed to talk to the Megababe chicks from Tokyo - Miyu, Miho and Ako - at their merch stand after their gig and couldn't resist getting into a photo. I probably should have picked up their latest CD, Speak Japanese or Die, since it's probably not a big seller at HMV.
Oh well, I can always listen to a couple songs at their Myspace.
More tomorrow... enjoy it live!
