Band/Fan Synergy Sites - MySpace

With my latest revamp and simplification of the Community Forum I removed the categorical topic structure and with it a section on MySpace. I didn't want that info to be lost, so I'm re-introducing it here.

Almost everyone knows about MySpace and I'm sure many of you have your own MySpace. There are over 60+ million members worldwide, and the number of visits daily puts it in the Web Site Top 10 easily. The rest of this posting is to illuminate those of you who somehow missed out on this phenomenon.

MySpace was one of the early examples of what are now known as social networking sites. The idea was to expand on the idea of dating services into networks of friends swapping stories, pictures and other media.

Somewhere along the way musicians started launching MySpaces of their own to make themselves known to potential new fans. Most already had their own official web site, but they saw that a lot more people would hit on their MySpace than their own site. And, they could add a link to their official web site at their MySpace anyway.

In reponse to this happening, MySpace implemented a way to add music to stream or download, and other band-friendly features. There are now over 1.4 million bands registered.

Sure, lots of people still use MySpace for dating and sharing stuff with family and friends; but MySpace has become the ultimate band/fan synergy site. Fans add bands as friends, and bands add fans.

I set up Toronto Live! Club Hub with the same underlying theme of band/fan synergy, but have no aspirations to accomplish what MySpace has on a global scale. It's incredible!

I encourage you to use MySpace to check out info on bands you're not familiar with or to register yourself as a fan of the bands you like. And, by all means, create your own presence there. If you're in the Toronto area, tell us about your MySpace in the Forum, and you'll probably end up interacting with some new friends (or bands) in the GTA.

I don't have a personal MySpace that I'd care to mention right now, but I have one for Toronto Live! Club Hub. It's at... http://www.myspace.com/torontoliveclubhub

I intend to add all of the best bands I've seen at Toronto live music venues as "friends", as well as any of you who have (1) a MySpace, and (2) are participating in the Forum here, and (3) want to be counted as a friend of Toronto Live! Club Hub.

The notion of specialized web sites that are a win-win for both performers and live music fanatics really appeals to me, so I'll be trolling the web for other band/fan synergy sites. Stand by for the next installment.
