Live Music New Years Eve Suggestions

The Christmas tree is still up, so let's keep celebrating with some live music all over town.

We confess, that in our own seasonal hedonism, we've been a little lax with updates here lately. All the same, we've been packing in shows for a variety of musical interests for this week. We just need to fill out the January calendar more. Stand by.

Naturally New Years Eve is the big night this week, and we've flagged three shows that will be entertaining, suit a variety of audiences, and won't break the bank (i.e. covers of $20 or less).

Since we're having temporary problems with our Calendar page, we'll repeat them here...

  • The Sadies @ Horseshoe... psycho/psychedelic/country. This is an annual tradition on NYE at The Horseshoe. I'm sure there will be lots of special guests joining them on stage as usual. If you haven't seen them before and are old enough to remember the theme music from the TV series Rawhide, you've got the general idea!
  • Elliott Brood @ Lee's Palace... folk rock with a splash of alt-country. Expect some banjo in the mix. Perennial favourites NQ Arbuckle are one of the openers.
  • The Mahones @ Mitzi's Sister... Celtic punks with endless energy. Expect your adrenalin to be pumping!
We recognize, of course, that many prefer one of the more traditional New Years celebrations... maybe some dancing and dining, something old instead of new, etc. So, for any New Years type of celebration imaginable, we'll just point you to NOW's New Years Eve Party Guide. If you can't find something on that list, you might as well stay home!
