Canadian Music Fest 2009

Mark your calendars... Canadian Music Fest 2009 is coming up soon (March 12-14). Formerly called Canadian Music Week, the new name seems to be far more appropriate.

First of all, it was always a 3 day event (unless you count a few peripheral events the day before and the day after), not a week; and I suspect that people parsed the old name as (Canadian Music) Week, as opposed to Canadian (Music Week). The point is that it is a Toronto-based (i.e. Canadian) event, but there are many great international bands playing in addition to our extraordinary Canadian talent.

Like the North by Northeast Festival in June, this is a festival of exploration. For the price of one wristband ($35), you're good to see any of 500 bands spread over 45 venues.

A common mistake (we think) is to look at the programme, pick out your favourite performers, and off you go. There are two disadvantages to that approach...
  1. You're only going to see any one act for about 30-40 minutes max. If you want to see a favourite band, why not wait until you can see them play a full set another time.
  2. You'd be missing out on many bands that could well become your new favourites.
We really encourage seeing as many groups as you can, since it's such an amazing opportunity to do so over three great evenings.

So, wander on over to the Canadian Music Fest web site, where you can place an advance order for your wristband and review the lineup.
